NICHOLAS SHUMAKER - Development
A 2001 English and Theology double major at Georgetown University, Shumaker began working in the entertainment industry for Globe TV on a large scale, State Department funded documentary, The Exchange, that attempted to bridge cultural divides created by 9/11. Following his work there, he received a grant from Prince Charitable Trusts and moved to Cuba for three years with National Geographic director, Mike Cahill. In addition to short form reporting, he produced Boxers And Ballerinas, a documentary that explored the modern texture of Cuba-US relations. It played in over forty festivals internationally, and is being distributed in Europe by Paris-based Wide Management.
After leaving Cuba, Shumaker moved to Panama, and then to New York City, where he line produced projects for Dirty Rice Films (Roger Dodger, P.S., Diggers). His writing on Cuba has appeared in Slate Magazine, TruthDig.com and the Brooklyn Rail. He has been invited to speak at New York University, Georgetown University, the Kennedy School of Government, George Washington University, and the University of Vermont. He is also producing Help Wanted Nights, the feature film debut of iconic independent rock musician Tim Kasher. He is fluent in Spanish.
